The Story
Kristie & Paul live behind an historic cemetery in Nashville where many famous Nashville based musicians are buried. Roy Acuff, Keith Whitley, John Hartford, Hank Snow, Earl Scruggs are a but a few. Kristie had the idea of writing a song in the style of many old time Country Music duets where the singers poked fun at each other. Paul wisely commented that they should write about their OWN faults. a gathering of Nashville’s finest pickers came together to record the album “Whiskey & Wine” with Paul & Kristie. the cover art is a piece created by Kristie. she is an accomplished artist using recycled bottle caps as her medium. Lyrics
Take a Look at Us Verse 1 Way back when he met me I could turn a head Now I wake up every morning looking like the walking dead. I know he still loves me I wear his wedding ring I may not look like much to you but I’m his everything Verse 2 It wasn’t all that long ago I had big curly hair Then I shaved it off and now my head is bare when i try to grow it back it always comes out grey you might miss my big ole mane But she loves me anyway Chorus: We know that we ain’t perfect we never count the flaws One without the other Just won’t work at all He’s the wine in my tumbler She’s the whiskey in my cup If you want to know what love looks like Just take a look at us Verse 3 I’ve got a few more pounds, some wrinkles and some gray I have a lot of dimples where they really shouldn’t be I steal all the covers or set the bed on fire don’t you know I’m still the one that fuels his desire Verse 4 I do all the cooking then leave the mess to her Dishes in the sink and popcorn on the floor She launders, cleans and vacuums Sometimes even mows I can see she loves me more than you’ll ever know Chorus: We know that we ain’t perfect we never count the flaws One without the other Just won’t work at all He’s the wine in my tumbler She’s the whiskey in my cup If you want to know what love looks like Just take a look at us Verse 5 I wake up every morning slip quietly from bed by the time noon rolls around I'm needing to be fed he rolls downstairs still half asleep and makes some food for me I can't even scramble eggs I'm lucky he Loves me Verse 6 often times she tells me right where something is But when I go to look you know I can’t find shit she goes right behind me and finds it in a blink i better get my glasses checked i’m driving her to drink Alt Chorus He’s the straight man to my crazy She’s the calm to my storm We’ve shared a lot of years Created our own norm We’ll never be the people we were when we first met but the longer we’re together the better off we get Chorus: We know that we ain’t perfect we never count the flaws One without the other Just won’t work at all He’s the wine in my tumbler She’s the whiskey in my cup If you want to know what love looks like Just take a look at us
